As the summer's worn on, speculation has risen over Paulinho's future at Bayer Leverkusen. With seemingly endless young attacking options, including new signing Adam Hlozek, the Brazilian could be the odd man out. Paulinho is entering the final year of his contract and has tallied just 8 goals and 5 assists during his 4 years at the club.

The winger arrived in Germany from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama in 2018 for a reported fee of €18 million. Paulinho has shown flashes, but has struggled to find consistent game time and missed nearly a year in the 2019/20 season with an ACL injury.

In an interview with Brazilian paper O Globo, the 22-year-old stated that, “For me, my future is already decided. The club already knows that I don’t want to stay for another season."

The club at the BayArena is bound to lose money as Paulinho's market value has dipped to around €11 million. A return to Brazil or a stay in Europe are possible, but it's likely that if the Brazilian were to move this summer, a much lower fee could be reached for his services.
