Schalke 04 coach David Wagner has made it clear that Alexander Nübel will remain the club's first-choice goalkeeper despite putting in a poor performance in last week's 0-5 loss to RB Leipzig.

Nübel's performance has been heavily criticized, with some claiming that Markus Schubert should take his place in the Schalke net.

But Wagner says the 23-year-old will be in goal once again when Schalke face FC Köln away from home on Saturday.

"Just like many other players, Alex had a bad game," Wagner told Sport Bild.

"Alex knows that he has to train well and then take the chance to do better in the next game," he added.

Nübel is set to leave Schalke 04 to join Bayern München on a free transfer at the end of the season.
