Borussia Dortmund's Manuel Akanji has praised his new teammate Abdou Diallo who has joined the BVB from Mainz.

Akanji says he was already impressed by his fellow centre-back when Dortmund were up against Mainz during last season.

"I already noticed him in a match against Mainz last season. He played a very good game. In a sense, he is a similar player to me. He can both play in the center and as a full-back, he is physically strong and still good at distributing the ball. He is a very good defender, and we'll see how he'll do in the coming weeks," Akanji told WAZ.

Diallo, 22, was signed for a fee of €28 million.
