Ruhr-Nachrichten report: Thomas Meunier out for Augsburg and Pokal

Germany's Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper reports that continuing knee problems will keep Thomas Meunier on the sidelines for the club's next two fixtures.
According to a reliable local news source, knee inflammation kept Thomas Meunier out of the starting XI this past weekend. The Ruhr-Nachrichten article notes that the 29-year-old Belgian international has been complaining of severe discomfort in the same knee joint that caused him prolonged issues during his PSG days. Meunier already missed three fixtures this season with calf problems.

The club has taken no chances, excluding Meunier from all training exercises this week and submitting the player to a battery of tests to see if the injury is structural. The article suggests that nothing structural was found in the tests, but the inflammation persists. It is such that the BVB is prepared to exclude their starting right-fullback from potential participation against FC Augsburg this weekend and SC Paderborn next Tuesday in the DFB Pokal.

BVB trainer Edin TErzic has several options should he wish to keep his back-four in place. Spanish youngster Mateu Morey started in Meunier's place last weekend. Felix Passlack and veteran Lukasz Piszczek can also play the position.
