Seoane irked by relegation race questions: "Not prepared to discuss hypotheticals."
Gerardo Seoane | Borussia Mönchengladbach |
With just one win from their last eight fixtures, Gerardo Seoane's Borussia Mönchengladbach have suddenly found themselves dragged down into the German Bundesliga's 2023/24 relegation race. The Fohlenelf - in 13th place on 32 points with three match-days remaining - likely need to secure at least one more win to ensure themselves of top flight German football next season.
The remaining BMG schedule is anything but kind. Gladbach must face Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart on the final two match-days of the season. The most winnable game of the final slate appeared to be before them this weekend. Upcoming opponents SV Werder Bremen, however, appear no slouches themselves coming off of two straight wins.
Seoane wasn't terribly interested in running down scenarios with members of the assembled press corps at his Thursday pre-match presser. The Swiss trainer made clear that he and his staff "understood the undesirable situation" and the "challenges associated" therewith. The 45-year-old insisted that his team was "tactically and mentally prepared for Bremen."
"I'm not prepared to discuss hypotheticals with you," Seoane said, "alterations to the table when one thing or another thing happens. We're engaged with our personal performance and what we can do to increase the chances of taking points."
"For us, it's about where we stand after each match-day," he continued, "We naturally wish that the situation was different, but no one is hiding from anything. We know what our situation is."
