Eberl comments on Bayern's rocky coaching search: "It is what it is."
Max Eberl claims that he was as surprised as everyone else when it news broke early Thursday morning that Ralf Rangnick had turned down the job to coach German record champions FC Bayern München. Bayern's newly appointed board-member-for-sport nevertheless wished to emphasize that the manner in which the German media has played up Bayern's search for a new trainer didn't reflect the reality of the situation.
"The media plays up candidates and when they decide to stay with their clubs [or in Rangnick's case a national FA], it's portrayed as if they turned Bayern down," Eberl said in a pre-match interview with Sky Germany on Saturday afternoon, "I've learned in my life that, when one door closes, others that one didn't know about before open. We'll find the right coach."
"We're looking to remain calm," Eberl continued, "When I started in March, it was known that I had to find a new coach. There's a consensus among us [in the front office] that we're doing it intensively, reliably, and conscientiously. Every newspaper under the sun knows that we have a task to accomplish. It is what it is. Now we move on."
