VfB Stuttgart full-back Borna Sosa might not be eligible to play for Germany after all, according to Kicker.

The 23-year-old was born in Croatia, but has recently been given German citizenship on the initiative of Germany coach Joachim Löw and the DFB scouting team.

But he might not be allowed to play for Germany due to an age clause in FIFA's regulations, as per Kicker.

FIFA states that players will only be allowed to switch their allegiance to a different association on the condition that "at the time of being fielded for their last match in an official competition in any kind of football for their current association, they had not turned 21 years old."

However, Sosa was 22 when he last played for Croatia's U21 team in a European Championship qualifier against Scotland in November 2020.
