"With his talent, Jurgen will infuse our offensive with a new impetus," sporting CEO Fredi Bobic noted on the club's website.
"It's been a long process," Ekkelenkamp noted in his own statement, "but I'm very happy to finally be here. Hertha is a great club, the Bundesliga is a very interesting division and Berlin is a beautiful city."
It seems unlikely that Bobic and the administrative team are finished with their transfer moves ahead of Tuesday's deadline. The front office still maintains an estimated positive net transfer balance of close to €40 million after the sales of Jhon Cordoba and the recent Matheus Cunha offload.
Additionally, investor Lars Windhorst announced this week that he had managed to raise a €30 million cash injection for the capital city side over the summer.
