Having won just one of their last six games across all competitions, RB Leipzig head into Sunday’s away game against Hamburger SV in desperate need of a victory.

Leipzig’s recent struggles have seen them slip out of the top four and put their goal of returning to the Champions League – following last season’s disappointing seventh-place finish – in jeopardy.

According to Bild, the work of RB Leipzig coach Ole Werner is increasingly being questioned internally. If the Saxons fail to beat Hamburger SV, there could be a debate over his future.

The management fundamentally believes Werner is capable of guiding the team back to form and achieving their seasonal objectives, but the 37-year-old must start delivering results again.

While Leipzig are capable of playing brilliant football at times, one of the big issues identified is their inability to see wins through, according to the report. Most recently, Werner’s side squandered a 2-0 lead against Borussia Dortmund, drawing 2-2.

Werner himself is acutely aware of the importance of the upcoming matches. Bild quotes him as saying:

“The final third of the season is starting – that’s when the course is set."
