Steffen labels defeat to Dortmund as "too harsh" on Bremen

The 56-year-old felt his side "consistently found solutions" to stop BVB but lost their way in the final 15 minutes.

Despite going down 3-0 away to Dortmund this evening, Werder Bremen coach Horst Steffen felt the final score score was misleading.

“The result is too harsh, because we played a decent game. We consistently found solutions, played well, and until the 76th minute, we kept pace and had chances.

The team believed in themselves, but the game was decided at 0-2. It's a shame for the team because the lads put in a tremendous effort to defend their goal," Steffen added.

Bremen's skipper Marco Friedl shared a similar vein of thought to his coach, but conceded his side lacked a clinical edge in front of goal.

“The result is more decisive than the game actually was. We played some of our best 60 minutes of the season and, in my opinion, were the better team.

We let the game slip away with a set piece – when you have three or four top chances, you have to convert one of them.

“We didn't manage to do that, and that's why it hurts to have lost the game,” said the Austrian, who was visibly frustrated in the mixed zone.
