VfL Wolfsburg have taken strong action following Saturday’s 1-2 defeat to Hamburger SV, which extended the club’s winless streak to eight games.

In addition to parting ways with head coach Daniel Bauer, Die Wölfe have sacked sporting managing director Peter Christiansen with immediate effect.

“We thank Peter for his tremendous commitment to VfL Wolfsburg. As Sporting Director, he successfully oversaw the personnel restructuring in women’s football alongside our sporting management,” said VfL Wolfsburg supervisory board chairman Dr. Sebastian Rudolph.

“Unfortunately, the sporting results on the men’s side have not met expectations. Therefore, we have decided to end our collaboration with him. We wish Peter all the best in his professional and personal future.”

Christiansen, who took on the role in summer 2024, commented:

“I have worked with great dedication and full focus for VfL Wolfsburg. From the very beginning, I gave everything I could. My thanks go to the staff, the players, the fans, and everyone who brings this club to life with passion.

"In the coming weeks and months, I wish success to the men in the fight to stay in the league, to the women competing for the title, and to all teams of the VfL Academy, as well as all the best for the club’s future.”
