Borussia Dortmund’s talks with Karim Adeyemi over a new contract could be complicated by a clear demand from the 23-year-old.

According to Sport Bild, super-agent Jorge Mendes recently flew in to negotiate in person with BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

The report claims that Kehl has been informed that Adeyemi and his management are insisting on a release clause in the new deal and that it is “virtually impossible” that they will give up this demand.

For years, BVB have tried to avoid including release clauses in player contracts, granting them only in exceptional cases such as with Erling Haaland and Serhou Guirassy, who could only be signed because such an option was included.

There has also been talk of a long-term contract extension until 2031, with a significant salary increase, but how exactly Dortmund are responding to Adeyemi’s demand is unclear.

Adeyemi's current deal expires in 2027.
