St. Pauli’s momentum in the relegation fight faced a stumbling block as they lost away to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The side from Hamburg will stay in the playoff spot for another matchday.

"We gave away two gifts,” said coach Alexander Blessin in his post-match interview. Although he didn’t deny Kevin Stöger’s magic, the 52-year-old was furious as they easily conceded the free-kick in a dangerous area.

“The first goal we conceded was beautiful. There's no denying it. He struck the ball brilliantly, and it was unstoppable. But the way it came about is frustrating. We weren't proactive or focused.”

Blessin acknowledges his team’s improved performance after the break. “We tried in the second half and had more possession, but not in the areas where we could be dangerous. Then we gave them another gift for the second goal. We gave them too much space. We cannot be satisfied with the result.”
