With his contract at FC Augsburg set to expire this summer, Elvis Rexhbecaj will be available on a free transfer.

According to Kicker, the 28-year-old central midfielder's former club VfL Wolfsburg are leading the race to sign him ahead of 1. FC Union Berlin, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Werder Bremen.

Wolfsburg are in serious danger of dropping out of the Bundesliga, sitting 17th and having failed to win any of their last 12 games.

Remarkably, Kicker’s report claims that he would be willing to return to the Volkswagen Arena even in the event of relegation.

Rexhbecaj spent 10 years at Wolfsburg before being sold to Augsburg in 2022 following loan spells at 1. FC Köln and VfL Bochum.
