Criticism of Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller has intensified as the season has progressed, and Saturday’s 6-0 defeat to RB Leipzig marked a new low for Die Adler in a campaign that began brightly, but has largely gone the wrong way in recent months

Victories are desperately needed in the Champions League, where Eintracht sit 28th with four points from their first five games.

However, points are anything but guaranteed against FC Barcelona – even if the Catalan giants have had a somewhat disappointing Champions League campaign so far, currently sitting 18th with seven points.

Domestically, Hansi Flick’s side are in excellent form and top the La Liga table ahead of Real Madrid, having won their last six league matches following an entertaining 5-3 victory over Real Betis at the weekend.

The two teams last met in the 2021/22 Europa League quarter-finals, when Eintracht prevailed 4-3 on aggregate before going on to lift the trophy after beating Rangers in the final.

Team news and predicted lineups:

Marc-André ter Stegen (back), Gavi /knee), Ronaldo Araujo (personal) and Dani Olmo (shoulder) are out for Barcelona.

Eintracht Frankfurt still have to manage without their injured star striker Jonathan Burkardt, who is out with a calf injury. Michy Batshuayi is out as well due to a foot injury, but on the bright side for Eintracht, Can Uzun and Hugo Larsson returned to the squad against Leipzig after spells on the sidelines.
