SL Benfica have tabled a bid for Bayern Munich’s João Palhinha, according to a report from Portugal.

Portuguese publication A Bola claims that Benfica have submitted an offer worth €15 million in guaranteed fees plus a further €5 million in potential add-ons for the 31-year-old.

Palhinha has also been linked with Aston Villa and Newcastle United, but Benfica are reportedly optimistic about winning the race for his signature, having already agreed personal terms with the midfielder on a four-year contract.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl publicly said that negotiations with Aston Villa had broken down last week, but The Athletic reports that the Premier League outfit have since reopened talks with the German champions.

However, Aston Villa remain determined to sign Palhinha on loan with an option to buy, while Bayern would prefer a permanent transfer, which is what Benfica are offering.

The Bavarians paid €51 million to sign Palhinha from Fulham in the summer of 2024.
