The Estonian shot-stopper and Swiss striker appear to be in a race against time to be fit for the Bundesliga's return.

Werder Bremen's international break hasn't exactly been gleeful so far with two further stars sidelined while on duty for their nations.

DeichStube has confirmed that Karl Hein was unavailable for Estonia's Nations League match against Luxembourg which ended in a 1-0 win.

As the Green-Whites announced via Bluesky that evening, the 24-year-old was unable to participate due to muscular problems.

Similar issues had already kept Hein out of action at the start of the season, which will come as some concern for Daniel Thioune.

It remains to be seen whether Bremen's number one will be fit for the Bundesliga restart on Friday, 9 October away to Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Cedric Itten was also absent from Switzerland's squad in their 2-1 victory over Slovenia after taking a knock to his foot.

The Werder Bremen marksman had already missed the national team's final training session and therefore was left out completely.

Swiss national team coach Murat Yakin initially gave the all-clear for the 29-year-old, but it wasn't enough for him to play.

As a result, with the forthcoming week's rest and recovery, there's a slight chance Itten could feature for Bremen in Dortmund next Friday.

For now, the duo's availability remains up in the air – a similar story for Felix Agu who hobbled off in Bremen's friendly match with FC Twente.
