For some time now, Brighton & Hove Albion have widely been considered the frontrunners to sign 1. FC Köln star Said El Mala.

However, it now appears the 19-year-old will not be joining the Premier League side after all.

Despite having agreed personal terms with both Said El Mala and his brother Malek, Brighton have now decided to withdraw their €35 million offer and pull out of the race for the youngster, according to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

The Billy Goats are reportedly holding out for a €50 million fee for their prized asset, and Brighton weren't prepared to increase their bid to that level, as per the report.

This does not necessarily mean El Mala will stay at the Bundesliga club, however, with Newcastle United and Chelsea, among others, also said to be monitoring his situation.
