Clear favourite emerges in Gladbach coaching search as verbal agreement is reached

After Borussia Mönchengladbach suffered their fourth consecutive Bundesliga defeat on Saturday, losing 4-3 to Mainz, sporting director Rouven Schröder confirmed that a “verbal agreement” has been reached with a coach to succeed the sacked Eugen Polanski.

While Schröder did not reveal the candidate's name, it is clear that Christian Titz, Horst Steffen, Dino Toppmöller and Domenico Tedesco are no longer in contention.

According to Bild, that leaves one man as the leading candidate: Alexander Blessin, who left FC St. Pauli following their relegation last season.

Before taking charge of St. Pauli, Blessin had spells as head coach of KV Oostende, Genoa and Union Saint-Gilloise.

Gladbach are expected to announce their new head coach in the coming week.
