Could Cristiano Ronaldo have succeeded at Bayern? Thomas Müller weighs in

Thomas Müller has given his verdict on whether Cristiano Ronaldo could have succeeded at Bayern Munich when he was linked with the club years ago.

After his contract with Manchester United was terminated in November 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly offered to Bayern Munich.

However, the now 40-year-old Portuguese legend ended up signing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr instead.

German legend Thomas Müller, who was still at Bayern at the time, believes Ronaldo could have been a good fit for the German giants.

“Ronaldo at Bayern could have worked from a sporting perspective,” Müller told Sport Bild.

“At that time, he was already purely a goalscorer and would certainly have scored his goals. Whether he could have integrated into the team and the playing style would have depended on the coach,” he added.

According to Müller, if current Bayern coach Vincent Kompany had been in charge at the time, it probably wouldn't have worked out on the pitch.

“Let’s put it this way: It probably wouldn’t have worked with Kompany's style, because all eleven players had to work in both directions for each other,” Müller explained.

Müller doesn't think Ronaldo would have disrupted the dressing-room atmosphere, but acknowledges that his body language on the pitch could have caused problems.

“I’ve heard that Cristiano is a very good teammate off the pitch. On the pitch, however, I found his body language rather questionable,” Müller said.

Müller, Bayern’s record-appearance holder, left the German champions last summer to join the Vancouver Whitecaps.
