Despite Jürgen Klopp naming an extended 44-man squad for the international break, Borussia Dortmund's Maximilian Beier was not among those selected.

Rather than allowing the disappointment to derail him, however, the 23-year-old is determined to use it as motivation and fight his way back into the Germany setup.

Beier told RTL/Sky that he had a “good, open conversation” with Klopp, who made it clear that there will be further opportunities to impress.

“And it wasn’t the last training camp. There are still a few more to come,” said Beier, who is determined to “make it harder for him [Klopp] by simply playing well, and that’s my goal now.”

The Borussia Dortmund attacker also revealed that Klopp was honest about an area of his game that he believes currently needs improvement, pointing specifically to his positioning.

“He gave me honest feedback that, at the moment, my positioning is playing a role in one way or another, but that’s something I can work on,” Beier explained.

Beier has made 10 appearances for Germany so far and was part of Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the World Cup.
