Behind the scenes, Borussia Dortmund appear to have taken the first steps towards extending Waldemar Anton’s contract beyond 2028.

According to Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund bosses Ole Book and Lars Ricken met with the Anton's representatives last week to make their intention to extend the centre-back's contract clear.

The discussions are at an early stage, but both the club and player are understood to be on the same page, with Anton open to staying at Dortmund for the long term.

The report also suggests that Dortmund are planning to hold talks with Gregor Kobel and Julian Ryerson, whose contracts likewise expire in 2028, but sorting out Anton’s future is the priority for now.

The 30-year-old joined Dortmund from Stuttgart in the summer of 2024 and has since made 94 appearances for the club.
