Back in the summer of 2025, Fabian Reese put any short-term speculation about his future at Hertha BSC to rest when he signed a long-term contract extension until 2030.

However, with the summer transfer window approaching, speculation could once again intensify over the Hertha captain’s future – especially after a 0-1 defeat to Holstein Kiel at the weekend effectively ended the club’s hopes of promotion from the 2. Bundesliga this season.

“I'm extremely disappointed with today’s game,” a frustrated Reese said in a post-match interview.

“We’ll have to see what happens in the summer,” he added, fuelling speculation about his future at the capital club.

Reese’s agent, Dusan Jevtic, recently confirmed interest in his client from Bundesliga clubs.

“It is true that there are several interested parties from the Bundesliga. I don’t want to say more than that. Hertha are in a very important phase. There is no need to create unrest,” Jevtic told Bild.

It has been suggested that a fee in the region of €10-13 million could convince Hertha to sell their captain.

VfL Wolfsburg have recently been mentioned as potential suitors. However, Die Wölfe are currently not even certain of playing in the Bundesliga next season themselves, sitting 17th with three games remaining.
