VfL Wolfsburg’s winless run extended to six games over the weekend, as Die Wölfe suffered a disappointing 2-3 home defeat to FC Augsburg.

The loss leaves Wolfsburg 15th in the Bundesliga, level on points with St. Pauli in the relegation playoff spot, leading to increasing questions about head coach Daniel Bauer.

Wolfsburg managing director for sport Peter Christiansen recently publicly backed the 43-year-old, stating there is "no discussion about the coach." Yet Sunday’s away game could prove decisive for his future.

Several potential replacements for Bauer have already been mentioned, and former Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has now emerged as a candidate, according to Bild.

The German tabloid reports that there are considerations to bring the 72-year-old back to the club he led to the Bundesliga title in 2007.

Magath is currently working as sporting director at Regionalliga side SV Viktoria 01 Aschaffenburg. His last coaching job was in 2022, when he saved Hertha BSC from relegation.
