Former Bundesliga defender Jannik Vestergaard has decided to hang up his boots.

The Danish international, who has been without a club since leaving Leicester City in the summer, announced his decision in an interview with Danish outlet Politiken.

“I’ve started to feel a sense of weariness. A feeling that my motivation isn’t just on the decline, but that it’s no longer really there. It feels right to retire now,” Vestergaard told Politiken.

Vestergaard, 34, made 185 Bundesliga appearances for TSG Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining Southampton and later Leicester City in England.

He made 59 appearances for Denmark, scoring three goals.
