Christian Günter has committed to a new contract with SC Freiburg.

The Bundesliga club confirmed the contract extension for their 32-year-old captain on Wednesday without disclosing the length of the new deal.

"There have been so many occasions in the past where Christian’s sporting and personal qualities were rightly highlighted," said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.

"He would probably say: ‘Enough talking, let’s get on with it!’ What’s remarkable is that Christian shows no signs of slowing down in any area. We’re thrilled!"

Günter, Freiburg’s record appearance holder with 453 matches for the club, added:

“I’m still very hungry, and there’s nothing better than playing for SC Freiburg. As a team, we are successful this season as well and we want to continue that. I’m looking forward to all the challenges ahead.”
