SC Freiburg came from behind to beat FC Augsburg away from home on matchday 8.
Freiburg had the first chance of the game when Derry Scherhant and Maximilian Eggestein combined inside the first ten minutes. The left winger returned from an injury as he's hoping to make Jürgen Klopp's Germany squad once again after his strong performances earlier this month.
Julian Schuster's side had the chance to close the gap with FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund to a single point before tonight's Der Klassiker, and Jan-Niklas Beste and Lucas Höler had the next opportunities as the visitors aimed to end a two-game losing streak.
However, Augsburg found the target with their first clear-cut chance in the 18th minute. Michael Gregoritsch scored against his former club as he was left unmarked when Arijon Ibrahimović delivered an inviting cross from the left flank.
Mio Backhaus denied Gregoritsch a brace moments after another decent chance for Beste. Freiburg also had a slow start after the break as Ibrahimović came close to double Augsburg's advantage before substitutes came to the rescue of the visitors.
Days after Keisuke Goto scored a brace off the bench, four substitutes were directly involved in Freiburg's goals as they're now only a single point behind the top two. The Japanese turned provider for this one when Igor Matanović leveled the score out of the blue.
Freiburg turned the point into three with Cyriaque Irié scoring his first Bundesliga goal five minutes from time. The Burkinabe winger got the better of Hennes Behrens to convert from Vincenzo Grifo's cross.
The hosts are now winless in six Bundesliga games as squandering leads continue to be an issue for Manuel Baum's side, while Freiburg returned to winning ways after narrow defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern.
