The early signs reflected Gladbach’s renewed hope after successive wins over Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. However, in terms of goalscoring chances, the hosts had the first big opportunity through the unmarked Tom Baack before the midfielder saw the first yellow card of the game.
Robin Hack had the first real chance for the visitors before the in-form Joe Scally denied another goal because of his foul on Paderborn's goalkeeper Nahuel Noll. Alexander Blessin's side had a couple of more chances to take the lead before the break, but Noll was in fine form between the posts.
There was an early scare for Gladbach early in the second-half when referee Timo Gerach mistakenly pulled out a red card on Fabio Chiarodia before realizing it was not a yellow. On his Bundesliga debut for Gladbach, Daniel Batz denied former Bayern attacker Gabriel Vidovic at the hour mark.
With time running out, 17-year-old sensation Wael Mohya tried a solo effort, which was blocked by Mattes Hansen. Paderborn's defender had the last chance of the game in injury-time as the newly-promoted side kept back-to-back clean sheets.
Gladbach will remain bottom of the league despite finally earning their first point at Borussia-Park. Paderborn extended their unbeaten Bundesliga run to three games.
