Borussia Mönchengladbach are sweating over the fitness of captain and star striker Tim Kleindienst ahead of their Bundesliga clash with local rivals 1. FC Köln on Sunday.

The 31-year-old had to cut training short on Tuesday after feeling “unwell” during the warm-up, new Gladbach head coach Alexander Blessin told Sport1.

“I don’t want to take any risks at all, so I told him he should go inside and get it checked afterwards. It’s not as if anything has torn, but it’s the feeling he has,” Blessin explained.

He added that Kleindienst knows “his body quite well”, with the issue appearing to be muscular.

“If an older or more experienced player says he doesn’t feel well during the warm-up, then it was simply a precautionary measure,” he continued.

Blessin is now approaching his first game in charge of Gladbach, who have lost their opening four Bundesliga matches of the season.
