Haaland and Bayern Munich continue to be a source of transfer speculation. The German record champions were reportedly interested in the Norwegian before his move to Manchester City, and recent discussions have reignited amid uncertainty surrounding the English club’s sporting future.

Speculation has centred on the possibility of Manchester City facing relegation, prompting questions over whether Haaland could consider leaving the club. Bayern have subsequently emerged as a potential destination, with the 26-year-old having established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in world football.

In an interview with BILD, Hainer was asked specifically whether Haaland could become an option for Bayern should Manchester City suffer relegation.

The 72-year-old initially pointed to the quality of Bayern’s current attacking options, stressing that the club have little immediate need to strengthen in that area.

“With Kane, Olise, Díaz, and the others, we have an outstanding attacking line. We scored over 120 goals last season. So I think we are very well positioned in attack,” Hainer explained.

His comments represented a clear vote of confidence in Bayern’s existing forward line, which has already demonstrated its ability to deliver goals in abundance.

However, Hainer was more open when asked whether Haaland could become a realistic target in the coming years, potentially emerging as a long-term successor to Harry Kane.

“When we talk about the future in a few years, the situation will be different, and we’ll see,” the Bayern president added.

Although his response does not suggest that Bayern are actively pursuing a deal, Hainer stopped short of ruling out the possibility of signing the Norwegian in the future.

Kane’s future could shape Bayern’s long-term plans

Bayern are already considering the longer-term future of their attacking department. Kane is now 33, with his current contract at the Allianz Arena due to expire in the summer of 2027.

The Munich club are working towards an early contract extension with the England captain, with Hainer recently indicating that negotiations were progressing positively and that only details remained to be resolved.

Kane’s eventual succession will inevitably become a consideration for Bayern, and Haaland’s profile would make him an obvious candidate should the club decide to pursue a marquee signing in the coming years.

The Norwegian’s suitability for Bayern is hardly a new talking point. The German giants were interested in him during his time at Borussia Dortmund, before he ultimately opted to join Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Any renewed attempt to bring Haaland to Munich, however, would present significant financial challenges. A potential record transfer fee, combined with the striker’s substantial salary demands, would make a deal extremely expensive.

For now, Bayern appear satisfied with their existing attacking options. Nevertheless, Hainer’s comments leave the possibility of a future move open, ensuring that speculation linking Haaland with the German champions is unlikely to disappear entirely.
