HSV directors Claus Costa and Kathleen Krüger confirmed that the club decided to part ways with Jean-Luc Dompé. The 30-year-old Frenchman still has a one-year contract left at the Bundesliga side.

“Jean-Luc (Dompé) and HSV owe a lot to each other in view of the past few years,” Costa noted in a candid interview. “However, his sporting situation has already changed significantly over the course of the second half of last season.

“After close coordination with the coaches, we have come to the conclusion that he no longer has any perspective in our plans for the upcoming season.”

Former FC Bayern team manager Krüger also commented on the move as she insisted the decision was made “exclusively for sporting reasons”. Dompé, who played 113 times for HSV since joining from Zulte Waregem in 2022, was fined a club-record six-figure sum for disciplinary reasons a few months ago.
