Hütter reflects on Frankfurt's “terrible second half” in heavy defeat to Augsburg

Eintracht Frankfurt lost 4-1 in Adi Hütter’s second home debut as they conceded twice in less than two minutes after the half-time break. After their dominant first-half display, the hosts crumbled with defensive fragility the theme in the first couple weeks of the season.

"We should have been 2-0 up in the first half, and we simply can't afford to let the game slip away in a minute in the Bundesliga," Hütter complained in his post-match interview with DAZN. “It wasn't to be expected after the first half, in which we clearly dominated the game, but 45 minutes aren't enough.”

Jonathan Burkardt agreed with his coach's verdict as he saw the team fail to take advantage of his early goal. "It really hurts. Augsburg were much more mature in the second half." said the striker.

Hütter, who arrived this summer for his second spell at the club, stressed there should be no excuse for the way they lost the game. "It simply shouldn't happen to us in this form – process or no process." 

However, he did also take the time to praise the first-half performance in which Frankfurt could've stretched their lead. "That's how I imagine football, and you have to be able to play that over a longer period of time. We did pretty much everything right in the first half.”

The Austrian coach finally summarized the game perfectly with “positive first half, terrible second half.”
