Ahead of TSG Hoffenheim's meeting with VfL Wolfsburg this Saturday, Christian Ilzer confirmed Valentin Gendrey will be unavailable having undergone surgery.

“Valentin’s injury is a bitter blow. He has now undergone surgery. Suffering his third serious injury within a year is incredibly frustrating," Ilzer said at today's press conference.

“We hope he returns very quickly and can finally break this cycle of bad luck," he added, after the French defender picked up the ankle injury during Wednesday's training session.

Ilzer also confirmed that only Koki Machida and Adam Hložek are unavailable for the match, with both “still have a long way to go” before they can resume team training.

Regarding the clash with Wolfsburg, Ilzer has asked his team to “bring identity and intensity to the pitch” against a side in the midst of a relegation battle.
