Back in 2023, Konrad Laimer left RB Leipzig to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

However, if Jürgen Klopp had his way, the 29-year-old Austria international would have moved to Liverpool instead.

“I wanted to bring him to Liverpool as a number six, but then he went to Bayern,” the former Liverpool head coach said in his role as a World Cup pundit for MagentaTV.

While Laimer has mostly been deployed as a full-back for Bayern, Klopp said he would have used him in a more central role.

“As for Laimer, I can say: in my team, he would play as a number six,” he added.

According to reports, Bayern and Laimer are close to agreeing a contract extension beyond 2027.
