Both teams found the net inside the first half-hour, but Marius Wörl and Daniel Hanslik’s celebrations were cut short because of offside calls. The rest of the half lacked clear-cut chances at either end.
The trend continued after the break until Stefano Russo came very close to breaking the deadlock with a stunning effort at the hour mark. The hosts also had another decent chance when Monju Momuluh tried to beat Julian Krahl from a counterattack.
Bielefeld scored a league-high ten goals from set-pieces, and they created numerous chances through dead balls in the last fifteen minutes. However, Kaiserslautern battled for a point in a game of few chances.
Torsten Lieberknecht's side sit in sixth place, while Bielefeld are six places behind them at 12th. Kaiserslautern will end a very promising year at home against relegation-threatened Magdeburg next week. Bielefeld will travel to the capital for their duel with Hertha Berlin on Friday.
