Sky Sports report Borussia Dortmund’s initial offer for Said El Mala left 1. FC Köln’s boss Thomas Kessler irritated because of the low price. According to Patrick Berger, the Black and Yellows bid a €26 million fixed fee, with €16 million in possible bonuses.

While €8 million of the bonus payment is realistically achievable, the remaining €8 million was deemed unrealistic per Sky Sports. Köln reportedly closed the door for any negotiations unless an interested club met their €50m valuation.

El Mala was close to joining Brentford earlier in the transfer market until the player and his representatives declined the move. The 19-year-old scored 13 Bundesliga goals in his debut season in professional football.
