Ellyes Skhiri's return to 1.FC Köln has fallen through for now, but the club's bosses continue to look for the perfect solution.

Effzeh sporting director Thomas Kessler confirmed their eagerness to find a defensive midfielder in a recent media briefing:

“If we're going to look at that position, we're still searching for a solution, but we need patience,” Kessler carefully explained.

Now, according to Portuguese journalist Pablo Oliveira, they have found a potential target in VfL Wolfsburg's Vinícius Souza

The report even suggests that Wolfsburg have already received an official offer, but ejected Köln's offer of a loan with an option to buy.

Meanwhile, Kicker.de believes Wolfsburg are reluctant to let the 27-year-old, who is expected to be a key figure next season, go for good.

Furthermore, it's unsure whether the transfer is financially feasible given Wolfsburg paid around €15million for Souza last summer.
