Borussia Dortmund will head into the international break with a perfect Bundesliga record after their narrow win over Stuttgart. Maximilian Beier scored the only goal twenty minutes before time in a game of few chances.

“Life writes the most beautiful stories,” Niko Kovac remarks as he points to Beier missing from Jürgen Klopp’s extended squad. Despite the list of 44 players for four games, the 10-time international failed to make the cut.

“Maxi Beier isn’t with the national team, but today he was the one who scored. I’m thrilled for him, and it ultimately shows that we have a great squad and a great player in Maxi, and that he has rewarded himself with this goal today. Now, he can take a few days off and work from home.” added Kovac in his post-match interview.

The matchwinner thanked substitute Jobe Bellingham for his well-timed cross in the move that led to the goal. “First and foremost, we had to keep a clean sheet here at Stuttgart. We did so emphatically throughout the 90 minutes. For my goal, it was a great pass from Jobe (Bellingham). For a forward, nothing's better than only having to say thank you.”

Kovac explained the difficulty of the game compared to previous encounters between the teams. “From both sides, it was an intense game that did not have quite as much as one knew from past encounters between Dortmund and Stuttgart. It is a statement win to do it here." the Croat coach concluded.
