Borussia Dortmund’s winning streak came to an end on Friday evening as they conceded two late goals against Werder Bremen. Managing director Lars Ricken and head coach Niko Kovac admit the disappointment in the manner they threw away a six-game streak in all competitions.
“It's pure disappointment,” Ricken said in the mixed zone after the final whistle. “We knew it was going to be a difficult game. Nevertheless, we came in well and had an extremely large amount of possession.
“Bremen then attacked with the courage of despair and did well. In the end, you have to look forward. We have a lot of tasks ahead of us now. As disappointed as we are now, we can also be confident with our start in the league.”
“We dominated the opponent for 88 minutes in such a way that we had them in the corner,” Kovac reacted as his team started the busy schedule with a poor result. “But we didn't manage to finish the last eight minutes as we should have.
“We have to blame ourselves for that. We had chances in the second half. We are disappointed, of course. We dropped two points. Hopefully, we will learn our lessons from the last eight minutes.”
Borussia Dortmund’s next game will be against fellow Black and Yellows Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League. They will then travel to struggling Union Berlin in matchday 6 Bundesliga action.
