One of the biggest transfer sagas in European football this summer came to an end on Thursday, as Yan Diomande’s move from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid was officially confirmed.

Following the announcement, RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer praised the 19-year-old winger and expressed his pride in the development he underwent in Leipzig after joining from CD Leganés last summer.

“From day one, Yan impressed us with his fearless approach, his willingness to learn and the courage he showed on the pitch. In next to no time, his pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal saw him establish himself at the highest level," said Schäfer in a statement posted on RB Leipzig's website.

"We’re proud that Yan’s performances for RB Leipzig attracted so much attention internationally. It shows how much young, hungry players with the potential to improve can develop at our club.

"We’d like to thank Yan for his commitment, his positive attitude and the many special moments he gave us in an RBL shirt. We wish him every success and all the very best for the future, both on and off the pitch.”
