RC Lens are closing in on a major winter signing: Amadou Haidara is set to leave RB Leipzig and join the Ligue 1 leaders after reportedly passing his medical. The Malian midfielder has agreed terms with Lens, and final details over the transfer fee are being finalised.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of Leipzig’s plans - 0 Bundesliga minutes this season show that clearly. With that , the club appears ready to offload him, while Lens gain an experienced central midfielder at a modest cost - reportedly €1-3 million including add-ons!
Once a regular at Leipzig, Haidara played 222 games with 15 goals and 13 assists. At Lens, he is expected to strengthen the midfield and provide depth for a club chasing the Ligue 1 title. His new contract reportedly runs until 2029.
For Leipzig, it’s a pragmatic move to reduce wage costs and streamline the squad. For Lens, it’s a low-risk, high-reward addition - a chance to add quality and experience in midfield without breaking the bank. If all goes smoothly, Haidara will make his Ligue 1 debut in red and gold in January, leaving the Red Bull badge and chapter behind.
