According to reports from Spain, former Real Madrid forward Raul is among the candidates to replace the recently sacked Erik ten Hag as Bayer Leverkusen head coach.

When asked about the reports at the German Football League (DFL) general meeting in Berlin on Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro told reporters:

“There are many Spanish names that have been mentioned, even in the summer. I won’t say anything about that.”

He added that the club is working to bring in a replacement as quickly as possible.

“We hope that training next Tuesday can perhaps be led by someone new.”

Raul is familiar with the Bundesliga, having played for Schalke 04 between 2010 and 2012.

Most recently, he has been coaching Real Madrid’s second team.
