Mainz confirm Veratschnig signing

FSV Mainz 05 confirmed the signing of Austrian flanker Nikolas Veratschnig on a free early Tuesday morning.

The rumored transfer of Austrian midfielder/fullback/winger Nikolas Veratschnig is through. The 21-year-old joined Rheinland-Pfalz's FSV Mainz 05 on a free transfer Tuesday morning. Veratschnig's new contract in the Pfälzer capital runs through 2028. He arrives in Germany having made 76 competitive appearances for his Austrian side Wolfsberger AC.

"Nikolas Veratschnig is an extremely dynamic winger whose speed gives our squad an additional exciting facet," FSV personnel boss Christian Heidel noted in a statement, "His performances in Austria have made him a sought-after player and we see great development potential in him. We are delighted that he wants to take these next steps at Mainz 05."

"I'm ready to take the next step in my career," the player himself added, "Mainz 05 is exactly the right club for this. I can continue to improve under optimal conditions in one of the top leagues in Europe. The talks with the people in charge, especially with coach Bo Henriksen, were great and have motivated me immensely. I'm now looking forward to getting to know my new team-mates and the Mainz fans."
