After fighting his way back from injury, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha was named in Germany’s World Cup squad on Thursday.

Speaking about Nmecha when announcing the squad, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann described him as a “world-class player.”

“He’s a top player who brings everything needed to be one of the best midfielders in the world. He has so much talent, so much speed, so much dynamism,” Nagelsmann said.

Having seen Nmecha play for Dortmund towards the end of the season, Nagelsmann is confident the 25-year-old can make a difference for Germany at the World Cup.

“He is healthy, fit, has no problems, and will help us enormously to play a good tournament,” the Germany coach said.

“Felix simply worked and trained well during his rehab phase. He rebuilt his muscles again, gained extreme stability in his knee – more than he actually had before.

"In his 20-minute appearance, when I was at the stadium, his first action after nine weeks of injury was a turning move plus a 40-metre high-speed dribble. And I already said: ‘Okay, that works, he’s back.’.

“In the last game, he ran himself into the ground for 90 minutes. He did very well there as well.”
