Hiring Jesse Marsch as Leipzig coach was a mistake, admits Mintzlaff

In retrospect, Jesse Marsch should never have been appointed RB Leipzig coach, according to club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.
RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has admitted that hiring Jesse Marsch as coach was a mistake.

Marsch left Salzburg for Leipzig to come in as Julian Nagelsmann's successor last summer, but was relieved of his duties and replaced with Domenico Tedesco last month after failing to live up to the expectations.

"Jesse Marsch is a great person and really good coach who will continue to work very successfully in the future," said Mintzlaff in an interview with Leipziger Volkszeitung.

"But knowing what we know today, it was a mistake to bring him in.

"We deliberately signed Jesse, with full conviction, because we wanted a bit of a return to the RB DNA. We didn't succeed in taking this step."
