Freiburg vs Werder Bremen preview: Can the visitors maintain unbeaten away record?

Freiburg will attempt to extend their unbeaten home run to seven games in all competitions when they face a Werder Bremen side who are yet to lose an away match this season.

Freiburg

Freiburg's seven-game unbeaten run was ended last weekend when they were thrashed 5-0 by Bayern Munich. Despite losing against the reigning champions, Christian Streich's side are currently in the top four, with five points separating them from league leaders Union Berlin.

The Breisgau-Brasilianer looked set for another defeat in midweek after falling behind in the DFB-Pokal meeting with St Pauli. However, Matthias Ginter levelled in the third minute of stoppage time to send the tie into extra-time where a 119th-minute winner from Michael Gregoritsch helped Freiburg claim a 2-1 victory that secures their place in the third-round.

After reaching the final of the Pokal last season, Freiburg will be dreaming of another cup run this time around, but first and foremost, they will be focused upon Sunday's league meeting with Werder Bremen.

The hosts will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run to seven games in all competitions as they attempt to claim consecutive home victories in the Bundesliga.

Kimberly Ezekwem and Roland Sallai are both sidelined for the hosts due to injury issues, while Manuel Gulde and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh are also doubts for Saturday's contest.

Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen will be looking to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat to Mainz was followed by a DFB-Pokal exit in midweek.

The Bundesliga side conceded two first half goals in their cup meeting with Paderborn, but they looked to have kept themselves in the competition when goals from Leonardo Bittencourt and Mitchell Weiser sent the contest to extra time. However, Bremen ultimately lost 5-4 on penalties after Bittencourt missed his spot-kick.

Despite being eliminated in the Pokal, Bremen can be pleased with their season so far. The newly-promoted side are currently sat in 10th place in the Bundesliga, with seven points separating them from the bottom three, while they are two points adrift of the top six.

They will also be confident of claiming a positive result on Saturday after avoiding defeat in all five of their Bundesliga away games this season.
