Kovac on Hummels' substitute role: 'Each player must toe the line'
Bayern München coach Niko Kovac has commented on Mats Hummels' current substitute role.
Mats Hummels has watched Bayern München's last two games from the bench - and, just like any other substitute, the German world champion has to accept his current bench role, Bayern coach Niko Kovac says.
"Mats is a world champion. Others are not, but that doesn't mean they're not big names. At Bayern, you have to expect to also sit on the bench. Each player must toe the line," Kovac told reporters at a press conference today and added:
"I know what Mats can do and what he has done for this team. I can rely on him."
Kovac also revealed that Arjen Robben will be out for the rest of 2018.
"Arjen Robben won't play again this year. He has a muscle attachment problem. We will prepare him to be ready to return from the fourth of January 2019," he said.
Niko Kovac's troops will face Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
