Bochum boss explains decision to turn down Kruse

VfL Bochum boss Patrick Fabian has revealed why signing Max Kruse for free is not an option for the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club.

Patrick Fabian has revealed why VfL Bochum have turned down the possibility to sign Max Kruse, who is available on a free transfer after leaving VfL Wolfsburg.

Fabian, Bochum's managing director for sport, told Bild:

"His profile just didn't fit. His position is already well occupied with Stöger and Förster. And we don't play with a second striker."

At the same time, Fabian wants to change the age structure at the club, and 34-year-old Kruse doesn't fit into that plan.

"We have to rejuvenate the team - no matter in which league. But we have also won games with the oldest team in the Bundesliga. Quality is independent of age. In the event of relegation, we will pay attention to who is willing to join us and help shape our path," he notes.
