According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic played a major role in the club's decision to sign Niclas Füllkrug, with the report claiming that he preferred a new striker to a centre-back.

The Black and Yellows had reportedly agreed personal terms with Southampton's Armel Bella-Kotchap, but failed to agree a deal to take the former Bochum defender on loan, and he ended up at PSV instead.
After paying €15 million to land Füllkrug, Dortmund couldn't afford the €3.5 million loan fee for Bella-Kotchap that Southampton were asking for, according to Sky Germany.
According to Bild, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic was the one who pushed for the signing of Füllkrug, as he would rather sign a new striker than a centre-back.
With Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle and Mats Hummels, the Black and Yellows only have three natural centre-backs in their squad.
