Die Mannschaft and head coach Julian Nagelsmann made the dream start to life in Group C of the UEFA Nations League with victory over Hungary this evening. The two nations previously met earlier in the summer during the European Championships, and here Germany inflicted a second defeat on their opponents as the scoreboard read 5-0 in the North Rhine-Westphalian capital.

Hungary looked the lively from the off as ex-Leipzig star Szoboszlai and current Union Berlin midfielder Schäfer threatened. The former however, was vital in keeping it scoreless by preventing Tah's goal-bound header crossing the line. A beautiful team move would establish Germany's 1-0 lead before the half-hour. Groß sprayed a long pass to Wirtz, who in turn found Raum. The fullback fed Musiala and he pulled it back for Niclas Füllkrug to convert.

A second-half onslaught put the game beyond doubt as Die Mannschaft bagged two goals in an eight-minute period. Countering directly from a Hungarian corner, Germany flooded upfield. Wirtz bisected the scrambling red jerseys with a precise pass and Musiala evaded Bolla before curling into the lower right corner. Florian Wirtz added the third goal of the night when he played a neat one-two with Musiala to fire home from 18 metres.

Alexandar Pavlovic joined in on the fun when he opened his personal account in German colours. The 20-year-old found himself in space on the right side of the box before drilling beneath Gulácsi It was a torrid night for Willi Orban who conceded a penalty in the 81st-minute when he brought Kai Havertz to ground. The Arsenal forward nominated himself for the spot kick which he steered inside the right post to make it a terrific five on a night where Germany soared.
